Giorgos Kontis (b. 1981, Athens, Greece) is a visual artist based between Hamburg, Athens and Berlin.
Kontis’ practice is focused on abstract painting in consideration with minimalitic sensibilities while engaging a language that is simultaneously hidden and geometric. The function of the painted image in relation to the viewer is a core concern of his work.
Giorgos studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts, at the Academy of Visual Arts (AdBK) in Munich and at the University of Arts (UdK) in Berlin. He holds an MFA from the St.Joost Academy in Breda, the Netherlands, and a PhD in Painting from the Royal College of Art in London
