Gordon Cheung

Gordon Cheung (b. 1975, London, UK) is a multi-media artist living and working between London and Hong Kong. Born in London to Chinese parents, his practice engages with a transnational perspective.

Cheung’s creative process merges physical and digital methods of working, creating visually dreamlike landscapes that are paradoxically structurally and aggressively controlled: causing a “tension between illusion and systemic reality.” This work examine’s the cultural, economic, and ideological systems of global capitalism that both psychologically and physically determine the world around us while influencing our belief systems and identities.

Cheung’s work also finds inspiration across mythology, politics, religion, and economic history.

Cheung received his BA in Fine Art (Painting) from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and holds an MFA from the Royal College of Art.

He has exhibited internationally, including presentations at the Liverpool Biennale and the La Biennale di Venezia (Azerbaijan Pavilion), as well as exhibitions at Centre Pompidou-Metz and the Royal Academy of Arts.

His work is held in major institutional collections including the Museum of Modern Art, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, British Museum; Yale Center for British Art; and the Asian Art Museum
