JANA EMBUREY
(Slovakian, b. 1979)
Jana works across different styles and media but her use of ink on paper is extraordinary as she creates fantastical micro/macrocosms exploring the ideas of interconnectivity, oneness and the universal natural dynamics that govern our existence.
Her creative process is mindful, meticulous and meditative. The artwork consists of thousands of tiny circles/cells, individually hand drawn using archival ink pens of varied weights on Japanese Kozo paper which is then mounted on board. Each cell is whole and unique, yet an integral part of a greater organism.
Jana’s mindful process and inspiration imbues her works with a sense of calm and serenity that draws the viewer in on an expansive meditative journey.

Jana lives and works in Caithness, Scotland. Her work has been exhibited in the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh, the Royal Glasgow Institute and in shows across the country and internationally. In 2016 she was elected a professional member of the Society of Scottish Artists.

In addition to her ink drawings, Jana recently developed a new series of photogravures at the Highlands Print Studio in Inverness. The process combines traditional etching with a photosensitive material which gets exposed on the metal plate.
